ORDO
AURUM SOLIS
«
If you do not yet see your own beauty, then act as that sculptor
who desires to create a beautiful statue. (S)he scrapes the
clay here and there until it is smooth and perfect. Once (s)he
has smoothed out the surface and cleaned off the outer form,
the sculptor chips carefully to reveal the beautiful face
of the statue. In like manner you may also remove that which
is superfluous, straightening out what is oblique, purifying
all that is dark until it shines, and then you will not cease
carving your own statue until the Divine Virtue shines clearly
from you. »

THE
GOLD CHAIN
The
Ogdoadic Tradition of the Mysteries was born in Alexandria
at the end of the Egyptian Empire, and has continued from
that time to forge a true gold chain which links and unites
all its initiates.
From
Egypt to Greece and from Byzantium to Florence, our Tradition
has flourished, while yet remaining hidden, until it revealed
its presence in England in 1897.
The
Ogdoadic tradition successfully integrates the prestigious
knowledge of the philosophical and Hermetic schools of the
Occident. For this reason we find names such as Pythagorus,
Epicurus, Iamblicus, Plato, Plotinus, Proclus, Ficino, Pico
of Mirandola, Agrippa, etc
among the names of the Order.
From
its earliest beginnings, the Order of Aurum Solis has
been a remarkable example of an initiatory tradition which
always focuses students on the tasks of learning philosophy,
Theurgy and magic, rather than pointing them towards the search
for some transitory and fleeting temporal power.
It
is the style of the Ogdoadic Tradition to work with moral
improvement and an elevation of the personal consciousness.
Each Sister and Brother simultaneously transmits this Initiation,
while continuing at the same time to experiment with the most
effective occult techniques, gleaned from the Schools of the
Mysteries of the Occident.
MAGICAL
AND THEURGIC PRACTICE
As
a former leader of our Order said, "Magic is the production
of a desired effect, internal or external to the magician,
by the deliberate use of powers and faculties of the psyche
"
Hermetism
teaches us that, "what is below is like that which is
above, and what is above is like that which is below, to accomplish
the miracles of one thing
" Thus the rites the Magus
is able to accomplish are in direct proportion to the inner
growth he or she has achieved. High Magic becomes a part of
a Magician's life when the initiate becomes aware of his/her
own active role in creation. As Plato explained, we begin
to remember a celestial world to which our heart belongs and
to which we wish to return. The search for this Beauty, the
struggle to find "The One", may only be undertaken
by the simultaneous use of the Rites of Magic and the constant
striving for personal Virtue.
Thus
Magic becomes Theurgy at that moment when the initiate, conscious
of his/her responsibilities and his/her incipient capacities,
achieves fusion between his/her internal and external worlds.
The rites then become a simple tool that assists the student
in ascending the ladder towards the Absolute.
THE
INITIATORY COURSE
Progression
in the Order of Aurum Solis begins with a probationary
period consisting of a few months during which the applicant
achieves familiarity with a series of individual practices
(Pronaos). After mastering the Pronaos, or initial
practices, the student begins work on studies and practices
that have been structured in three levels or degrees to reflect
the three primary traditions of the Order Each Degree is focused
on the teachings and practices of one specific system, (which
is an aspect of the Order). In other words, each degree offers
foundational material and exercises of practical application
that cover one primary aspect of the Aurum Solis Tradition.
The first degree is primarily Kabbalistic i.e.
its teachings come from Judeo-Christian esotericism. The student
progresses though a series of magical and Theurgic practices,
which develops understanding and competence in the use of
this Kabbalistic system
The second degree is founded on Hermetic teachings
transmitted by Greek initiates and adepts of the Renaissance.
It constitutes an enlightened fusion of the Great spiritual
currents of the Occident.
The third degree establishes competence in the
Egyptian system. The Egyptian teachings come to us from the
end of the Egyptian Era and currently includes various studies
from that period as well as research and study into other
varied magical practices, such as Enochian Magic.
After the student has successfully achieved competence in
the Third Hall, all Sisters and Brothers of the Order participate
in the formulation of works that are aimed at the completion
of the Great Work, through the Great Operations of the
Order.
